Intercom to hire 150 people in Ireland next year, open new office in 2023
Irish-founded Intercom, a customer messaging platform for internet businesses, today announced plans to create 150 new jobs in Ireland next year and to nearly double its employees in Dublin by the end of 2022. The company currently employs over 600 people in offices in Dublin, San Francisco, and London.
Intercom has experienced significant growth in recent years, with over 30,000 customers globally using its platform to communicate with their customers. The company recently raised $125 million in a funding round led by Mary Meeker's Bond Capital, bringing its total funding to $241 million.
The new jobs announced today will be created across various roles, including engineering, product management, and customer support. Intercom says it is looking for people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to join its team.
Commenting on the announcement, Karen Peacock, CEO of Intercom, said: "Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Intercom has continued to grow, and we're excited to expand our team in Ireland in the coming year. We're looking for people who share our values of customer centricity and curiosity, and who are passionate about building technology that helps businesses grow and succeed online."
In addition to hiring more people, Intercom also plans to open a new office in Dublin in 2023. The company has not yet revealed the location of the new office or how many people it plans to hire for it.
Intercom's expansion plans come as other tech firms in Ireland, including Google and Facebook, continue to hire more staff despite the pandemic. The technology sector is seen as a key driver of Ireland's economy, accounting for approximately one-third of the country's exports.
Moreover, a recent report from LinkedIn found that tech roles were among the most in-demand jobs in Ireland in 2020, with software engineer and data analyst being the top two roles on the list.
Intercom's announcement today was welcomed by business groups and policymakers in Ireland, who see it as a positive sign for the country's economic future. "Intercom is a great example of an Irish tech company that has grown into a global player," said Richard Bruton, Ireland's Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment. "Their continued expansion is a testament to Ireland's reputation as a hub for innovation and talent."
